Founded in 1916 by Huliyappa Gowda, Hippla Estate has been passed down through five generations and is today managed by Nesara HD and Raghi Hippla. The estate is divided into three farms — Galigudde ('Windy Hills'), Kalavese, and Dinnekere — spread across the foothills of the Chandradrona range near the Bhadra River in Chikkamagalur at around 950 metres. The forests of the nearby Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary border the estate, bringing regular sightings of elephants, bears, gaur, and peacocks. In addition to coffee, the family grows areca nut and pepper.
