Kerehaklu — roughly meaning 'shelter by the lake' in old Kannada — is a 275-acre biodiverse estate in Chikmagalur that has produced coffee since 1953, now run by father-son duo Ajoy and Pranoy Thipaiah. Ajoy brings decades of on-ground farming wisdom while Pranoy, a Biology graduate, leads post-harvest innovation — fermenting coffees using native microflora cultured from the farm's own soil, flora, and cherry pulp. Arabica varieties including Chandragiri, Selection 795, Selection 9, Yellow Bourbon, and small quantities of Liberica and Excelsa grow alongside avocado, jackfruit, and wild fig under a dense forest canopy at around 1,145 metres.
